The village of Souyia is located 70 km southwest of Hania at the southern coast of Crete. The village with approximately 70 inhabitants is part of the Souya community which comprises three more little villages( Koustogerako 174 , at 510m a.s.l. Livadas 87, at 300m a.s.l. and Moni 92, at 162m a.s.l). The gorgeous sandy beach attracts many visitors who can enjoy their stay , at the modest hotel of the village or at several apartments available for rent.
The road from Hania is in good condition and passes through the mainland which is of an impressive beauty. Souya 's ancient name was Syia, and it was the harbour town of Elyros (located at the village Rodovani , at 10km north of Souya).
For the visitor who enjoys walking, nature and antiquities, a surprise awaits him west of Souyia: ancient LISSOS. In an idyllic verdant landscape, the sole inhabitant is the custodian who guides you to the tiny Dorian temple of Asklepios, the ancient theatre and the vaulted tombs.
