The village is located south of Kastelli Kissamos on the road to Topolia- Elafonissi, 42.5 km from Hania and 7.5 km from Kastelli. Voulgaro was the place of settlement of the Bulgarian soldiers of Nikiforos Fokas in 961 A.C. It is built at 100m a.s.l. and has 311 inhabitants, occupying with farming and stock breeding, . It is the seat of the municipality of the same name which includes 5 more villages:
